September Reads and October Hopefuls

September was a really great month of reading and I read some really great books.

My top Adult Read was The Happy Ever After Playlist by Abby Jimenez. I LOVE her books and I was looking forward to reading this one immediately after finishing The Friend Zone. It was funny, had me giggling and kicking my feet, and had my emotions all in wreck.

If you like romance, I highly recommend The Kiss Curse by Erin Sterling. It’s a companion novel to The Ex Hex and is just a good time. It’s silly and magical and romantic.

I also recommend None of This Is True by Lisa Jewell for thriller readers. It will keep you guessing the format change to Netflix narration is fun.

My top read for Young Adult was Unpregnant by Jenni Hendriks. My Banned Book club read this and I really liked the format and how the topic of abortion was handled and explored through a teen lens. Also, it’s set in my state, so that was really interesting.

The Renegades series was a close second along with The Inheritance Games. Both fantastic YA speculative fiction series that are quick and engaging.

It was hard choosing a top read for Middle Grade because 3 of these books are some of my all-time favorites. In the Key of Us by Mariama J Lockington was a reread for my Read to Write KidLit podcast and bookclub, so I didn’t choose it since I had read it before. When You Trap a Tiger by Tae Keller was simply amazing, but the one that made me sob uncontrollably was The Probably of Everything by Sarah Everett. It was so unexpectedly good.

October Hopefuls

I have many goals for October. Spooky reads. Banned books. Books by Indigenous Authors. Along with books for my various book clubs. Most importantly, I have to start reading through the nominations for the Cybils Awards in the YA Speculative Fiction category. I am so excited to be part of this group and want to do a good job.

What are your reading goals for October? I would love to hear!

Take care and happy reading.
