Words of Wisdom Wednesday

This is one of my favorite quotes from Harry Potter. I chose this quote because I want my students to think about how they treat others. Think about how you treat those who are “equal” to you (and what does that mean) and compare that to how you treat your “inferiors” (and what does that mean).

It is easy to see ourselves as “above” others and to treat those “below” us badly. We are not as kind as we could be. We are condescending. Our patience is less for those that we feel are not equal to us. We could be thinking of equality in terms of popularity or academics. It could also be based on our wealth or language. Being aware of how you treat others and why you may treat someone different is the first step to take towards being more kind to everyone.
