Beautiful painting that illustrates the powerful poetic voice. The transition from bright to dark to bright again shows the struggles Black girls face and is a must read so all can see the struggles they have faced and to provide inspiration and motivation to keep moving forward. My favorite quote was the end: “Shake off your ashes, girl,/crack open the stark night./ This new day is yours to make, to take, girl./ Take wing-/ and ignite.” Thank you Chronicle books!
